In our first installment of the series, we highlighted Dr. Rachel Knox and her amazing TED Talk on the Endocannabinoid System. Well, she is actually from a family of doctors. This week, we highlight Rachel’s mom – the matriarch – the amazing Dr. Janice Vaughn-Knox. The original MD who led the family in the discovery, research, and advocacy of CBD, Cannabis, and “Medical Marijuana.”
Dr. Vaughn-Knox, her husband, and two daughters are physicians and together they form The Doctors Knox, Inc., of which she is chief executive officer. An anesthesiologist by trade she had a front row seat to medicine in America. She did a deep dive into the Cannabis plant and she felt robbed of the opportunity to help her mom’s breast cancer or the loss of her first child to brain damage. Politicians and Big Business colluded to drive out this plant that could benefit millions.
She was angry, and she did something about it, starting with sharing the science with other researchers. Neurophysiology, Pharmacology, and the Clinical Application of Cannabis would never be the same.
R+R can understand this frustration. As children, our natural instincts are to care for and look after our aging parents. The manipulation of our healthcare system has led to many tragedies and loss for millions of people. We are always grateful for those doctors who dare to stand up in the face of powerful organizations and politicians.
Choosing CBD is considered both a luxury and a revolutionary act. The War on Drugs, Institutional Racism, The Industrial Prison Complex, Corporate Interests, The Legalized Cannabis Windfall are all wrapped up in this topic. And Dr. Vaughn-Knox speaks with heart and soul, fearlessly, advocating for patients, especially the Black Community.
